Mascots

Mascots are a fun part of sports. Plus I enjoy the unusual ones (Wampus Cats, Banana Slug, Horned Frog, even Sooners & Pokes). I wonder the history behind some of these... (I know the Sooners, but not sure how we get from Cowboys to Pokes). So, What are some of your favorite? (mascots, not necessarily teams). Do you know an interesting history behind an unusual mascot?
